What is a life coach?
A life coach, sometimes called a personal coach, doesn’t wear a whistle or make you run laps around the track. A life coach helps you move from where you are to where you want to be and helps you set a specific course of action to get there. A life coach helps you translate your dreams into goals – whatever those goals may be – a relationship, a career, a life-transition!

What is a family coach?
A family coach specializes in the support of the family, its members and the relationships they have with each other. A family coach helps you set family goals, couple or marriage goals, or parent goals, and - like the life coach - assists you in setting a specific course of action to reach those goals.

How is coaching different from psychotherapy?
The dictionary definition of psychotherapy is “the treatment of psychological disorders or maladjustments by a professional technique, such as psychoanalysis, group therapy, or behavioral therapy.” Therapy involves a diagnosis such as depression or anxiety, and treatment costs can usually be billed to an insurance company or HMO. A Coach doesn’t diagnose or go into depth about various issues dealing with the past.

How does it work?
Along with the workshops, 8-week or 12-week one-on-one customized coaching programs are offered. Each 50-minute session is held either in person at the offices of Today Coaching or over the phone. During each session both you and your coach will be reviewing your goals, your progress, your insights and your challenges as well as setting out your new action steps for the week, all noted in your customized coaching manual created by your coach. These sessions are supplemented by emails, plus the occasional “short coaching call” (5 minutes) as required. You take on as much homework as you choose, and most of your learning and growth happens between sessions.

Who are your clients?
My clients are people successful in many areas, but there are one or two areas in which they would really like to see improvement. Basically, they are people eager for change. My clients are mostly adults - people wanting help with relationship, family and parenting concerns. Some are looking for the stress and anxiety in their lives to be replaced with good health, balance and fulfillment. Some are interested in maximizing their potential, perhaps transitioning to new careers.

How long would we work together?
At Today Coaching, we offer on-on-one coaching in 8-week and 12-week time frames. These time frames work for most people; however, some clients achieve their goals ahead of time. We are here to help you achieve your goals and move forward independently – we’re not here to keep you as clients indefinitely!

What if I decide not to finish the coaching program?
At any time during the coaching program, you or the coach may cancel the program for an extraordinary reason such as a debilitating illness, or great incompatibility between you and the coach. In such a case, you would be refunded the unused portion of the fee less a $95 administrative fee.

What’s the next step to working with you?
For a workshop, you can simply register on-line. For one-on-one coaching you can either call or sign up for a free consultation. This initial conversation will allow us to have an opportunity to get to know each other and decide if coaching is appropriate for your needs. After the initial consultation I will develop a customized coaching program and we’ll get started moving you steadily toward your goals.
